Stylish Shopping Mission: Denim Shorts

A few weeks back I wrote a post on a warm weather must: shorts. Well, now that I am home in Texas and shopping I am realizing that I am desperately in need of denim shorts. With the high amount of jeans I have you would think finding denim shorts would be easy but apparently it's not. I have tons of regular plain shorts but all my denim shorts are either too small or just plain too short. I have been on a mission to find inexpensive denim shorts, I am very picky, I don't like them frayed since they will just unravel, and I want something that doesn't look like I am trying to sell cocktails or walking out of Hollister or Abercrombie (saying those words on my blog gives me chills). So the last few days I have searched high and low for decent priced denim shorts and came to these conclusions! Tomorrow I am dragging my mom back to the mall to find these shorts!

Stylish Designer Interview: Pooja Kharbanda and 6 Shore Road

I am so excited to introduce a new feature to Stylelista Confessions, designer interviews! If you recall, awhile back I did a designer spotlight on 6 Shore Road, the amazing line selling adorable coverups that can be transformed from day to night. Well my friend Shae at Bollare PR,whom I adore by the way, recently contacted me asking me if I was interested in interviewing the designer who is the brains behind the wonderful line and I of course jumped at the opportunity to learn about this fascinating line! Pooja Kharbanda is the designer of 6 Shore Road and has an amazing story to tell. I am so blessed to have been given this opportunity and couldn't wait to share my awesome interview with Pooja. Thanks again Bollare PR!

SC: Who do you admire in the fashion industry?

PJ: I’m totally in awe of Diane Von Furstenberg. I admire her as one of the great iconic American Designers that has managed to ride out the hard times in the Fashion industry and stay true to her design aesthetics.

SC: I know you were a finance major originally, what made you choose that at first before deciding to venture into the fashion world?

PJ: It’s quite funny, but I grew up painting, sketching and creating all kinds of art projects and I always knew that I would eventually end up in a creative field. I also credit my mom who’s a very fashionable woman create many of the clothes for my sister and I. Eventually, my passion for the creative field was so strong that I eventually redirected my career.

SC: What advice would you want to give to those wanting to start a career
in fashion?

PJ: My advice is to try to work at all aspects the fashion world whether through internships,
retail jobs or design jobs. Before I started my own line, I went to Parson’s for continuing
education for specific skills, and worked all kinds of paid/unpaid fashion jobs to really
get insight into the industry. It’s very important for an individual to gain knowledge
in all channels of the Fashion business. Lastly, one has to have passion for the business
and eventually it will show through.

SC: What were your biggest influences for
your latest collection?

PJ: The 6 Shore Road girl loves to travel and take inspiration from the people, lifestyles and culture in a specific place. She wants to be able to transition from day to night with a change of shoes or an addition of jacket. The Fall 2011 collection “Le Maison” which was inspired by the 70’s lifestyle at the Cristal Room Baccarat in Paris. The collection is intended for lounging by the fireplace, sipping champagne at the bar & dancing around to the music of the city.

SC: What was it like being raise in Hong Kong and Panama?
I bet you’re quite the world traveler!

PJ: It’s thanks to my dad and his career that I got to experience such amazing countries and people! Growing up in Hong Kong was amazing. It was an international community
where I really learned about many cultures, languages and beliefs. It’s an extremely modern and fashionable city that’s frequently termed as the New York of the East Panama on the other hand has both a great city life and an amazing beach life that is very relaxing and vibrant. This is where I was taken from a complete city girl to a beach girl. Over the years, my style has developed from each of the lifestyles I had there and it’s inevitable that you’ll always see bits and pieces of each of the places in my collections.

Thanks again Pooja for the wonderful interview! Check out 6 Shore Road on Twitter, Facebook, and their website!

Stylish Shopping Mission: The Perfect Graduation Outfit

When I graduated from high school which seems like forever ago, I didn’t really stress about my graduation dress since it would be covered up most of the time by my gown, so I chose a blue lacey dress from Forever 21 and Steve Madden wedges that did the trick. I am pretty sure the shoes cost more than the dress alone but that is beside the point! Now with my college graduation 81 daysaway you would think that looking for a dress now is to soon, but for me I need the 3 months to scope out the perfect dress, heck it took me 9 months to find my prom dress!

As I was visiting San Antonio this weekend I was on a mission to find the perfect graduation dress/outfit that would send me off into the work world in the best way possible. I ended up finding many options, gushing over the most amazing pair of Elizabeth and James heels and a coral printed Alice and Olivia dress that was beyond amazing. Since I just began my trip to Texas I thought that the Houston Galleria would be just as good if not better with plenty of options to choose from. But before I take the trip downtown I thought I would scope out some dress and shoe options that are definitely fashion school graduate worthy!

Stylish Fashion Duo: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

Before I left the desert, I got to catch up on my magazine reading and as I was reading the April issue of Vogue magazine I came across an article featuring my favorite duo-Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. On stilts wearing Tom Ford pajamas, the girls discuss their hugely successful clothing line The Row and what it's like to really be them! I have been a fan of this duo since their Full House days and as my dad and I discussed at dinner last night, they are very smart businesswomen. Taking over their entertainment company at age 18, the girls have only had success since then creating 3 amazing clothing lines and making a name for themselves in the fashion industry. I can't say enough amazing things about these ladies, as they are very much a role model for any person wanting to break into the fashion industry! Check out some pictures from their Vogue spread!

Stylish Nail Color: Sea Foam

Since I change my nail color practically every other day, I am constantly wanting the newest and hottest colors around! As I go through my favorite Tumblr's I have seen many pictures of girls with this gorgeous sea foam green nail polish that keep catching my attention! When I went to search my collection I realized the only sea foam color green I had was Essie's Mint Candy Apple, so I decided I needed to seek out the best sea foam green polishes around! You might recall green being a huge color at various fashion shows and on the red carpet, so the sea foam green color is perfect for spring! Here are my favorite sea foam green polishes!

Stylish Girl of the Month: Jennifer Lawrence

Can you believe that March is nearly over!? Every month is going by so much faster and before March comes to an end I have to announce my choice for the stylish girl of the month! With fashion week still fresh on our minds, I thought the choice might be simple, but as I really sat down and thought which celebrity really stood out to me in the month of March, I realized the decision was a bit harder than I expected. After going through the past month's pictures from fashion to media, I came to the final decision of Jennifer Lawrence.
The up and coming actress, nominated for best supporting actress in Winter's Bone proved she is a true stylelista on the red carpet this season! From watching her interviews, she is so confident and so well spoken for being only 20 years old. It must be that southern charm in her! Every dress she wore on the red carpet this season, ended up on the best dressed lists, including mine! Although she is always front and center on the carpet, she keeps a low profile everywhere else. You never see her out in public unless its on a carpet, making her a smart celebrity! Check out why I chose her as March's Stylish Girl of the Month.

Stylishly Green for St Patrick's Day

While I might not be Irish, that doesn't stop me from wearing green today and celebrating St. Patrick's Day! (Mainly because I know someone will pinch me if I don't!) While normally I am on Spring Break with my family drinking green beer somewhere on a beach, I am still in school and have yet another week until I am  on my SB, I found a way to celebrate in my own way with fashion of course! Green was a huge trend at fashion week this year, and as I dig in my closet I realize I don't have very many green items which is definitely going to change. Even if it's just a simple green ring or belt, the color green is definitely the must have color for spring! I decided to share my favorite green items I am lusting over right now :)

Stylish Warm Weather Footwear Lusts

With Spring front and center where I live, I am finally digging out all my warm weather clothes and sandals and trying to reinvent my wardrobe with last year's items. I am always set on my outfits until I get to my feet and realize I have no shoes that match my perfect outfit. I can only wear my precious Tory Burch flats and Dolce Vita sandals so many times, before they are worn to the bone. I am loving my Tom's right now, but some days we need to switch it up right? Well, I searched high and low for the perfect warm weather shoes and I managed to narrow it down to these! What do you stylelista's think?

Stylish New Favorite Model: Arizona Muse

With Fashion Week still fresh on our minds, I thought I would share someone that I saw was a recurring face on the runway! Normally we see Kate Moss, Jessica Stam, Chanel Iman, or Caroline Tretini, but a new face I saw on the majority of the shows was newcomer Arizona Muse. Born in New Mexico, this gorgeous mom is only 20 years old! She signed with Next Models back in 2008 and got her big break when she opened and closed the Prada show last September. I can't believe how young Arizona is and her natural beauty is overwhelming. She is now the face of Prada and YSL, walked in 23 shows for the Fall 2011 collections. Anna Wintour even agrees as she compared her to Linda Evangalista! She has a killer smile and gorgeous green eyes that make her one of my favorite models right now! Check out some pictures of how awesome Arizona really is!
Here is her latest campaign for YSL. How gorgeous is this ad?

Stylish Bathing Suits: Spring/Summer 2011

Yesterday I finally got the change to lay out by the pool and get some much needed sun! With Spring Break very near, finding the perfect bikini for those going to the beach is vital! While I may not be going anywhere extravagant, just home to visit family, that doesn't mean I can't find the perfect bikini! I will be living in LA very soon, which is basically bikini central in the summer, so having a few amazing bikini's is definitely a must! I still am loving my neon color ones from last summer but I am always up for new and exciting prints and colors! Here are a few of my favorites I am gushing over for spring!
Of course stripes are always a must when it comes to my bikinis! This Splendid one from Nordstrom is adorable and its reversible so you are getting two in one!! $57 and $47
I couldn't not include my favorite print: animal prints. While I may not look that good in it, I definitely am loving this Victoria's Secret

Stylish Ending of Paris Fashion Week

I can't believe that fashion week is already over! It went by so fast, I think mainly its because the fashion was so incredible! An amazing few weeks came to an end with of course incredible designers, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen, and Valentino! With Mila Kunis, Hailee Steinfeld, and Jennifer Lawrene sitting front row at Miu Miu to Sarah Burton taking over Alexander McQueen with the upmost respect for the late McQueen, to Marc Jacobs nailing it again at Louis Vuitton, these final shows were the best way to end an incredible Fall 2011 fashion week! So for my final post on the fall 2011 collections, here are my favorite looks!
Color blocking is back at Miu Miu and is gorgeous with this orange!
Kate Moss is back on the runway looks gorgeous at Louis Vuitton
I am in love with this dress from Alexander McQueen, definitely see why Kate Middleton is rumored to be wearing a McQueen dress for the royal wedding next month!
