Stylish DIY Project: Glitter State Wall Art

It's been awhile since I have done any DIY projects and I got the itch over the weekend after chatting with my mom about what we wanted to do for the day! I have had this on my Pinterest DIY board for awhile now and have been wanting to make it and knew it was the perfect time. We all know I love being from California and I am obsessed with glitter, so combining the two is a match made in heaven. While you can obviously do any of the 50 states, I chose California. I literally love waking up and seeing this hanging on my wall, its the perfect amount of sparkle. What's even better about this project, it literally only cost me about $20 bucks for all the supplies and is so easy! So here's how to make this sparkling piece of wall art.

Supplies:

-Scissors
-Mod Podge (Matte or Gloss will work)
-Gold Glitter
-White card stock and a piece of colored card stock that will fit in the frame
-Frame (I used an 11×14)
-Heart brackets (found in the scrapbooking section)
-Hot glue
-Brushes
-Hair spray or clear gloss spray
-Google image search of outline of state
1. Print out an outline of the state you are wanting to do in the correct size according to your frame. My frame was 11x14 but the size with the border was 8x10, so I made state smaller since California is longer, adjust for each state. Cut out the printed outline and flip vertically onto card stock and begin tracing. Once you cut it out and flip it over, the tracing lines won't show.
2. Cut out the traced state on the card stock.
3. Using a cardboard box or even a glass cooking container (this helps keep all the glitter and glue in one place) using the brush completely cover the state in mod podge. Make sure you don't do it too heavy or it won't dry.
4.  Once you have completely covered the state in mod podge, sprinkle glitter all over the state. If you notice some places are missing glitter, carefully add a drop of mod podge and then add glitter.
5. Once you are satisfied with the state, let sit for about 10 minutes.
6. After 10 minutes, take your hairspray or gloss spray, carefully and lightly spray the state so the glitter stays put. If you spray to close it can get the paper sort of wet, so spray a decent amount away.
7. Next, take one of the heart brackets and cut off the little arms on the back. (this is super easy since they are very flimsy and come off with regular kitchen scissors. Then using a small drop of glue from a hot glue gun, place the heart on whatever city you want to represent. I obviously chose Los Angeles.
8. Now, take the glittered state and attached to the colored card stock using the hot glue gun or
double-sided tape.
9. Finally, put the finished product in the frame and voila! You have a glitter masterpiece!

Super easy, right?
So until next time... Live Stylishly
